Fish Hatchery Tanks


The eggs of fishes are released in Fish Hatchery tanks the fry comes out from the egg. This is kept in the hatchery ponds for 2 to 3 days after which these are transferred to well prepared nursery ponds.

Fish Nursery Tanks


Next type is nursery tanks. This is usually rectangular in shape in about half an ace land. Before introducing the fry the tanks are prepared with weeds, predatory fishes and insects are removed.

The pond is limed by adding calcium carbonate to maintain the pH level between 8 to 9. the pond is matured by adding broadcasting organic manures and chemical fertilizers(NPK). Cow dung is the most desirable organic manure and about 5000kg is added per hectare, then the pond is filled with water.

Fish Rearing Tanks


Paddy field having the depth of water up to 2 to 3 feet can be used as rearing tanks. Nevertheless the depth of water in a rearing pond should not exceed 6 feet.
The rearing tanks are prepared in the same way like nursery ponds. Regular feeding with oil cakes and rice bran, enriched with minerals and vitamins, accelerate the growth of fingerlings in the rearing ponds.

Fish Stocked Tanks


Stocking tanks are large in size each tank with an area of 2 to 15 hectares with perennial water supply having a depth of about 6 feet. Stocking tanks are also well prepared by liming and manuring.
Organic manure is added at the rate of 20,000kg per p/ha per year. Chemical fertilizers at the rate of 1500 kg p/ha per year are added.
