Basic cooking time information

Preparation time: 30 Minutes

Cooking time: 5 to 8 Minutes per chila on sim flame

Makes: 8-10 chilas

Ingredients

1. 2 cups of yellow moong dal
2. Ginger (reasonably chopped)
3. Onion (finely chopped)
4. ½ cup cabbage (finely chopped)
5. 1 carrot (graded)
6. ½ cup peas (boiled)
7. ½ cup sliced cheese
8. ½ cup capsicum (finely chopped)
9. Vegetable oil to cook
10. Salt to taste
11. Red chili powder.
12. 3-4 green chilies (You may avoid chilies if you are cooking for children)
13. ½ Tsp Chaat masala
14. Coriander leaves (Dhania).
15. Soda or ENO powder

Preparation: How to cook

  1. Soak the moong dal for 4 to 6 hours in four cups of water.

  2. Pour dal with ginger and green chilies in a mixer with little salt and add water and grind it till it converts in to a fine paste.

  3. Mix ENO powder or soda in the paste.

  4. Preparation of stuffing for fried chilas: Take a pan and put 2 table spoon oil on it and heat it properly. Put onion and fry it till it becomes golden brown. Now add all other vegetables along with salt, red chili powder, chaat masala and mix and cook well. You may also mix some paneer in this mixture for some extra taste. Now smash the hot mixture and keep aside the pan as we will serve this vegetable mixture later with ready chila.

  5. Procedure for frying the chilas :Now put non-stick tawa on the gas and grease it with oil or butter. Now all you have to do it just spread the moong dal paste on your non-stick tawa. For a better shape spread the paste evenly in form of a dosa. After one minute change the side of chila or in other words just flip over, sprinkle cooking oil and cook it till the opposite side of chila is duly cooked. Now spread the vegetables mixture (stuffing) in chila which is already ready as per point above, and fold it carefully in a shape you like. Normally in our houses we used to see chila in half moon shape.

  6. Keep it in a plate and serve hot with ketchup or green coriander chutney.

Nutritious value of moong daal chila

Moong dal chila is not only tasty but also very healthy because of nutritious value of moong dal as it is full of fiber, float, proteins and Vitamins. It is specially recommended to those who are fat as it helps in reducing fat. Similarly as we all know that vegetables are recommended due to their nutritious values. Like carrot which helps in blood purification, prevents cancer, improves vision etc. Similarly cheese is a good source of calcium and eno powder makes it crispy and good for stomach as doctors recommend it for gastric peoples.

I hope you will like it but even though as I said kids are very choosy for their food if they don't like this recipe with moong dal you can try this with besan, bajara flour or suji. These all ingredients are easily available at nearby store.

Now just try this recipe at home and I hope everyone especially the kids will love it.
