Kids Lunch Box idea, tips and recipes


Are you worried about your kid's tiffin / lunch box? What to pack for lunch box? In this article, I have mentioned about kids lunch idea and recipes for the week, Like Monday Vegetable rice, Tuesday Bread poha or some dessert may be. Lets have a look to lunch ideas and recipes for the kids. Here I also mentioned five recipes for the week.

Preparing lunch box for small kids is not a easy job. Kids are really very choosy and always having excuse to not have lunch at schools.
So, better if you give him / her different food everyday, they will not get bored, and as a mother you also feel good. Make a weekly chart and follow that. It helps your kid, to make a habit of having different foods. So, no more worries, now you know what to prepare for your little one. You may change the items as per your convenience or availability of items. If your kid have allergy for any particular food, really do not like to have at all, do not force him / her, just avoid that, and replace by some other option.
Here is few good tips which could help moms :

Kids Lunch Box idea, tips and recipes :

Monday 

Item : Rice Item

Example : Vegetable Rice:, Idli and chatni, Dosa (Plain or masala), lemon Rice, Egg Fried Rice etc.

Tips : Put more fried / boiled green vegetables for vegetable rice, and make a healthy lunch.

Tuesday

Item : Bread Item

Example : Bread Poha, Bread butter, sandwich, Bread jam / jelly, sweet fruit bread etc. 

Tips : Use brown bread, its better for child health, rather than white bread, 

Wednesday

Item : Fruit Item

Example : Banana, Apple, Pear, Pomegranate, or any seasonal fruits.

Tips : Avoid to cut the fruit, wash it properly and give him / her whole fruit. 


Thursday

Item : Flour Item

Example : Roti, Paratha (Plain or stuff), puri, rumati roti and Bhaji., mixed flour (Ragi, wheat, rice, corn, peanuts) roti.

Tips : Mixed flour roti is very healthy.

Friday

Item : sprouted lentils Item

Example : sprouted Chickpeas / Chana (brown / green) ,Green Gram /Moong, etc

Tips : Sprouted lentils are very good for health, make a habit at least one day for sprouted lentils.


Saterday

Item : Dessert Item

Example : Sheera, Rawa, cake, Semiya, Sweet etc


Tips : The last day of the week, so go for celebration with desserts. 



Vegetable Rice (Monday)
Ingredients : -
Basmati rice - 1 cup
Water - 2 cups (as required)
Mastered oil / Ghee - 1 tablespoon
Onion (Chopped) - 1 medium
curry leaves - 5/6
Cumin - ½ teaspoon
Salt - As per taste
Poluo Masala - ½ tablespoon
Vegetables (Mix)* - 1 Cup
Peanuts (roasted) - 4 tablespoon
Raisins, cashew - 4 tablespoon


Preparation:

1.Wash rice properly
2.Boil water in a pan
3.Add rice and stir in low heat
4.cover it, and wait for 15 – 17 minutes
5.In the meantime, cut vegetables* and onion
6.take a pan, heat oil in medium, add curry leaves, chopped onion
7.Stir till the onions re golden brown.
8.Add vegetables and stir continuously.
9.Add polao masala and stir.
10.Add boiled rice mix it properly and cover it for 2 minutes in a medium heat.
11.Add roasted peanuts and mix well.
12.Add ghee / oil and heat for 1 minute
13.Remove from heat, garnish with raisins, cashew.
14.A delicious healthy lunch ready for your little master.

Note : You could add fried egg (omelet) and onion instead of vegetables and prepare egg fried rice.




Bread Poha (Tuesday)

Ingredients : -
Bread (Brown) 4 piece
Onion (medium sized) 1
Tomato (medium sized) 1
mustard seeds ½ tablespoon
curry leaves 5/6
Peanuts (roasted) 4 tablespoon
Green Chilli 1
Salt As per taste
Oil (cooking) As required
Cumin powder ½ tablespoon
Amchur Powder ½ tablespoon
Garam masala ½ tablespoon
Coriander Leaves -
Preparation:
1.Chopped onion, tomato, and green chillies.
2.Cut bread into small pieces
3.Heat oil in a pan
4.Add mustard seeds, curry leaves
5.Put the onion and fry till  golden brown
6.Add green chilli, tomato and stir for 4 minutes in medium heat
7.Add bread pieces, salt, Garam masala, Cumin powder, Amchur Powder, Peanuts (roasted)
8.Mix it well and heat for another 3 / 4 minutes
9.Decorate with Coriander Leaves
10.Bread poha is ready to serve.

Fruit Item (Wednesday)
1.Any fresh seasonal fruit like Banana, Grapes, Apple, Pear, Pomegranate could be given.


Flour Item (Thursday)
Mix flour prepared by mixing
100 gm Ragi flour
250 gm wheat flour
100 gm rice flour
100 gm corn flour
50 gm peanuts together.

Preparation:
Make a dough of mixed flour and make rotis as usual, and serve with sabji // bhaji.

Simple Roti Aloo Roll (Potato roll)

Ingredients : -
Wheat Flour (atta) 2 cup
Potato 2 medium size
Onion (medium sized) 1 ( finely chopped)
Tomato (medium sized) 1 ( finely chopped)
mustard seeds ½ tablespoon
curry leaves 5/6
Green Chilli 1
Salt As per taste
Turmeric Powder ¼ tablespoon
Oil / butter As required
Cumin powder ½ tablespoon
Amchur Powder ½ tablespoon
Garam masala ½ tablespoon
Coriander Leaves -
Preparation:
1.Mix flour with butter (1 tablespoon), water, salt and make a soft dough .
2.boil potatoes with little salt, peel off and cut into small pieces
3.Heat oil in a pan
4.Add mustard seeds, curry leaves wait for few seconds
5.Put the onion and fry till golden brown
6.Add green chilli, tomato, potatoes and stir for 4 - 5 minutes in medium heat
7.Add salt, turmeric powder, Garam masala, Cumin powder, Amchur Powder
8.Add chopped coriander Leaves, Mix it well and heat for another 3 / 4 minutes
9.Now prepare a roti from the dough.
10.Add butter one side of the roti, now add potato filling on that side
11.roll the roti and your favourite roti aloo roll is ready..



sprouted lentils Item (Friday)


Ingredients : -
lentils Chickpeas / Chana (brown / green) ,Green Gram /Moong, pulses etc.
Bowl one
Cotton cloth

Preparation:
1.Take a bowl , fill with water and soak the lentils overnight
2.In the morning, drain the excess water and rinse
3.now cover those lentils with wet cotton cloth for 10 to 12 hours
4.small sprouts will be visible by that time
5.rinse and cover again with wet cotton cloth for 7 – 8 hours
6.Repeat the above until the the desire size.
7.You can keep the cleaned sprouts in refrigerator and keep it fresh for a week even.



Dessert Item (Saterday)

Rawa Halwa:

Ingredients : -
Rawa / Sooji ½ cup
Ghee 1/3 cup
Sugar ½ cup
Water one and half cup
Cashews 4 / 5
Raisins 10 / 12
Almonds 2 / 4
cardamom powder ¼ tablespoon

Preparation
1.Heat ghee (clarified butter) in a pan in medium heat
2.Add broken cashews, raisins, slices almonds and stir for few seconds
3.keep them aside
4.now fry rawa till it is golden brown and an exotic smell comes out
5.Stir continuously while frying the rawa.
6.Add sugar and mix well
7.add fried dry fruits (cashews, raisins, slices almonds)
8.add water and stir continuously.
9.Add cardamom powder, heat till the rawa start living the pan.
10.Remove from heat and its ready to serve.
