The phenomenal rise of social media in the last few decades is unbelievable. The availability of mobile technology within the reach of common people has accelerated this growth. There was a time when people used to visit each other or assemble in a place and exchange their social messages, well-being, and other happenings in the families. With the advent of technology, those gatherings and meetings started getting replaced with phone calls and finally got replaced with the present-day social media platforms. So there has been a paradigm shift in the manner in which we interact with other people in society today. Today's social fabric is different from what it used to be in earlier times.

It is interesting to note that even the people who were not very social or were reserved have also now involved themselves in social media platforms and they are unhesitatingly communicating with other people as if they have known them for a long time. This is a strange behavioral shift and is all due to the attraction of social media platforms.

In earlier times we were judging a person by the friendship he kept with us or the help rendered by him in his time of need. But surprisingly today we don't consider all those factors and simply observe the likes and shares that a person is doing with our post or the post forwarded by us. We all very well know that these appreciations have nothing to do with real-life situations but somehow we all are infatuated and addicted to these social media platforms and simply flowing in the stream of messages and media.

Most people are spending a lot of time on social media and their physical interactions with other people in society have significantly gone down. This is the biggest change in the society that we are seeing today. The information dissemination was earlier based on one communication system and whenever we wanted to know about something we asked our friends and relatives about it and then someone told us the correct information and we went ahead with that. But today the entire scenario has changed and we simply float a question in social media and get a lot of information immediately from so many people who are enthusiastically doing it. Getting information so quickly and so easily is a positive thing that social media is providing to many people today. But there is a downside also as we do not know the authenticity of that information and in many cases that could be simply fake information. It is obvious that the user should be careful and cautious about such things.

Another interesting thing about social media platform is that it has given a great opportunity for people to virtually gather in large numbers and protest or fight for something. The voice of a large number of people on some issue can force the authorities to take a view on that. This aspect of social media is a big game changer today and many people are taking advantage of especially when they want to fight for justice something for the betterment of society.

Social media platforms have become a very handy tool in the hands of politicians and political parties and they are using it to align people towards them and make it a tool to win elections and come in power. We have seen this happening across the world during the last decade. The flip side is that for many people these activities are only limited to the digital arena because when it comes to physical action and physical assembling for a cause only a few of them respond to that.

One major impact of social media is being seen in the business world where due to the advent of digital marketing and other tools companies are aggressively making marketing efforts through social media platforms and a good number of customers are generated through that way.

It is very true that social media platforms facilitate people's business, learning, training, and socializing opportunities but there are inherent threats also in the form of cyberbullying, personal data theft, cheating, and deceiving of all kinds, etc. and that is what is most challenging to tackle.

In conclusion, social media has impacted our lives, our social fabric, and many other things in our lives and it is going to remain like that whether we like it or not.
