Gurgaon was created on 15th August 1979 and presently consists of nine blocks which are Tauru, Nuh, Pataudi, Nagina, Punhana, F.P. Jhirka, Sohna, Gurgaon & Farrukhnagar. Gurgaon lies at the extreme south of Haryana and geographically it lies between 27 degree 39' and 28 degree 32' 25" latitude, and 76 degree 39' 30"and 77 degree 20' 45" longitude. In the north of Gurgaon, its boundaries touch the district of Rohtak and Delhi, in the east it touches Faridabad, in the south it touches the boundaries of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and in the west it touches the district of Rewari as well as border of State of Rajasthan. It is a 32 km drive from the capital of India, New Delhi.

Climate / weather conditions in Gurgaon


The weather in Gurgaon is quite similar to New Delhi and Faridabad with the seasons divided into four phases, viz. winter, summer, monsoon and post monsoon. Summer starts from March and ends in end of June, from July to mid September is the period of southwest monsoon, mid September is the starting time of post monsoon period which lasts up to November from when the winter season starts which finally end in the end of June.

Language spoken in Gurgaon


Although Gurgaon has a cultural mix of several languages but from a tourist point of view if you know English or better still Hindi, then you will find no problem in communicating with the local people.

Places to visit in Gurgaon


Gurgaon: Don't think this a typo, Gurgaon is the headquarters of the district Gurgaon. It lies at a distance of 32 kms from New Delhi through the Delhi Bikaner railway route. The major buildings worth visiting are Cawn Sarai, Nehru Stadium and Kala Nehru Park. The biggest highlight of this town is the temple of Sheetla Mata which is about 1 km from the nearest bus stand. Sheetla Mata is known to be the wife of Guru Dronacharya and in respect of her the village people organize fairs in the month of March and July on Mondays and Tuesdays. Hindu's from far off parts of India visit this place. The administration of the temple has made good provisions for the assistance of tourists as well has made arrangements for the lodging, boarding and travelling of tourists.

Sohna: Located on the highway from Gurgaon to Alwar, Sohna is located 24 km from Gurgaon and 56 km from Delhi. Sohna has been derived from "Sona" which means gold. According to historical facts the naming of this place to Sohna was done when heavy rains in the beds of the neighbouring torrents brought here gold dust. The place has a great history and has had three different races making this place their home, viz. the Kambhos, the Khanzada and the Rajputs. Many ancient remains of all these races can still be found here. Sohna is also famed for its hot springs. During the ancient times this place was a hotspot of Rishis and the main hot spring (kund) here is called as the Shiv Kund. These springs are famed for their medicinal properties due to the presence of sulphur in these waters. When India was a British colony this place was a foreign tourist destination but now the government has developed the place into a tourist destination.

Nuh: Nuh is located about 45 km south of Gurgaon on the Delhi-Alwar road. The town was a hub of salt trade in the times of Bahadur Singh of Ghasera. Places worth to visit in Nuh are the fine masonry tank of red sandstone adorned with a umbrella and beautiful floral designs possible connected with a Nobel named Chuhi Mal. Another place is the tomb of Shiekh Musa which has in its design the patters of both Mughal and Rajput architecture and is at a distance of 2.5 km from the town. The tomb has shaking minarets whose shaking can only be distinctly felt. There are two other ancient monuments to visit – the Mosque and the tomb of Bahadur Khan Nahir. The structure is built of red sandstone and Grey quartzite with the ruined gateway having inscription to show that the structure was built in A.D. 1392-1400.

Pataudi: Just like Gurgaon is the headquarters of Gurgaon district, Pataudi is the headquarters of a tehsil of the same name. Located at a distance of 29 km from Gurgaon, Patuadi has a grand building which is actually the palace of Nawab of Pataudi built on 1934. The palace has a cricket ground inside. Other worth visiting places are temple of Lord Shiva at Inchapuri, at a distance of 8 km from town where a fair is organized at the temple in the month of November and the other place is Ashram Hari Mandir Sanskrit Vidyalaya.

Farukhnagar: This town is located in Gurgaon tehsil near the Rohtak district, at a distance of 21 km from the district headquarters in the north-west direction. The town has octagonal shape and the main tourist attraction here is the Jami Masjid which is built by the red stone of Agra. Marble tablets are also used as ornamental pieces and in the courtyard the southern wall of the Masjid has two slabs of red sand. In a village named Mubarapur at a distance of 5km from the Masjid is located a temple of Budho Mata.

Sultanpur Lake Bird Sanctuary: Located at a distance of Ten Km from Gurgaon and 42 km from Delhi this bird sanctuary was discovered by Peter Jackson and opened to the tourists in 6th February, 1972. This bird sanctuary is visited by migratory birds from far places of Siberia and Europe. Well developed facilities have been provided by the Government of India to develop Sultanpur Lake Bird Sanctuary as a tourist destination.
