Theme parks should come up in smaller towns as well

Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu is not a small town. On the outskirts of this big city, is a fabulous theme park. The park is the favorite visiting picnic spot of hundreds of thousands, particularly on the weekends. Chennai has at least three or four good theme parks. These serve as ideal playgrounds for children below the age of six.

However, there are no such theme parks in the other cities. These theme parks should come up in places like Salem, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, and in Chittoor and Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh.

Similarly, the C-class towns in other States should also have theme parks. Such developments will have a big boost to tourism and can also develop the service sector like hotels nearby, as those who visit such theme parks also visit the vegetarian hotels for food. The ripple effect in terms of entertainment and a good outing for children will naturally happen.

Hence, it is vital to start these theme parks with private initiative.

I agree that theme parks are a great way for families to enjoy the day out together. However, I think a lot of careful thought should go into setting up a theme park anywhere. First of all there is the question of land. You cannot just usurp somebody's land in the name of development. Secondly, it should be ensured that in setting up such a place of entertainment, the local natural resources are not harmed. The first victims of any type of infrastructure are trees, and, allied to that, flora and fauna since their natural habitat has been taken away. Thirdly, a responsible and reliable operator should manage the theme park. We have heard about poorly maintained equipment, not to mention safety norms going for a toss. Keep in mind, too, that theme parks have entry fees. Will people really pay for such parks?

By the way what do you mean by "C-class" towns? It sounds very derogatory. Why should we classify towns in the first place?

Sorry Vandana. It is not C class but C category towns as it I'd normally understood. A town with a six to seven lakh population with schools colleges and a good thriving service sector is normally classified as a C category town. Am sorry for the wrong usage.

Theme parks are ideal entertainment places for the visitors and are coming up in many cities. The initial costs of setting such parks are high but once there is a good rush of people to get entertainment in such attractive places then the cost is recovered in a few months or may be in a year.
In small places as number of visitors would be less so the businessmen do not venture capital investment just like that.
