The Higginbotham private limited is one of the greatest book store in Chennai. It is also oldest book store in Chennai. This Higginbotham were started by Britishers at the period of Indian under rule. One big proud of this book store is one of those names which closely associated with old madras. It is a great achievement of this book store. This Higginbotham is an Indian Company. They are the biggest book sellers and as well publishers in the Chennai city. The main store of this Higginbotham were located in Mount Road, Chennai.
This building consists of two floors full of books for all type of genders. One of the greatest thing is that, it is the building same as when it built. The maintenance of this building is extremely very good. The workers were highly responsible for each and every thing in this store. There were all sorts of books available over here. The Higginbotham was established by the Abel Joshua Higginbotham. This store was formed in the year 1844 as Higginbotham's. Before that this store was named as Weslyan Book Shop. From those period it was made remark as oldest book store in India. At the period of 1960, this book store were started its debute. They started to sell the books, publishing and printing. They started to print books both in English and Tamil languages. All sort of country books were published and sold. Mainly French, Germany were popular countries.
At the period of 1929, there were more than 400 employees worked in this store. There were lots of customers in this store and more higher officials also been members in this store. At those period, this was the greatest part of book selling store. This made the biggest name for all over. At present this Higginbotham had attain a big revolution in sort of 22 outlets spreaded all over South Indian States namely TamilNadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. This is a biggest achievement of this store.
