What is State Commission?


This article gives information about what is State Commission.

Meaning: Each State Government has to establish consumer disputes resolving agencies at State level. This is known as State Commission.

Formation: The State Commission will consist of a president and two other members to be appointed by the State Government.

Qualification of Member: The president should be a sitting or retired High Court Judge. The two other members, which includes one woman, should be well educated and having long experience in different fields.

Compensation Limit: This State Commission can entertain complaints having compensation value exceeding Rs. 20 lakhs but up to Rs. 1 crore. It can also entertain appeals against orders issued by the District Forum.

Procedure: State Commission follows the same procedure for the disposal of disputes, as it is followed by the District Forum

Enforcement: The order of State Commission is final, if no appeal has been preferred against it. The order is to be enforced as a court decree.
